'The Best of MTVz' A celebration of the iconic surf photography of Marty Tullemans

Marty Tullemans documented Australian surfer like no other over four decades from the early '70s through to the 2000s, from from the original Cooly Kids, Rabbit Bartholomew, Michael Peterson and Peter Townend to their modern day heirs, Mick Fanning, Mark Occhilupo,Joel Parkinson and Dean Morrison, and a cavalcade of great surfers in between.

Come and marvel at Marty's astonishing archive as we trawl through the highlights, from PT's iconic soul arch to a grommet Jason Buttenshaw locked in a crystalline cavern, to Neal Purchase Junior's trademark backhand blasts. With a lineup of Gold Coast surfing luminaries on hand to provide colourful running commentary, this will be a celebration of Marty's life and legacy not to be missed.

Celebrating Surf Photographer Lee Pegus

Friends of Lee Pegus, please join us to celebrate the life and legacy of much loved local surf photographer Lee Pegus with an old-style slide night.

We've pored through Lee's archives and filled a few carousels with the pick of his remarkable body of work, which provides a rich document of surfing on the Gold Coast in the '80s and '90s, as well as high points from his travels to Hawaii and beyond. Lee's fondly remembered as long time photo editor for Surfing Life magazine, a man who treasured memorable surfing images and earned the trust and affection of all who worked with him.
Lee was a Surfers Paradise identity in the 1960s, stylish goofyfoot, model and super stylish guy that came from the Surfers Paradise period and gravitated to become one of the best photo editors in the country, such was the respect from peers in the media and photography world that lavished praise on his professional work especially the legendary slide show nights that he famously hosted at Morrison Media.See Less

Ukulele Exhibition – Limited time

Ukulele Exhibition

Over the past few years there’s been a recent resurgence of the ukulele. Popular artists such as Jack Johnson and Vance Joy have all had major hits featuring the soothing cords of ukuleles, which seem to conjure images of palm trees, beaches, flowers, and that easy going island vibe.

Between the months of March and July, Surf World Gold Coast will host a rare Ukulele Exhibition in celebration of this amazing instrument. The exhibition will feature ‘A Century of Ukuleles’. Consisting of early Portuguese and Hawaiian models dating back to 1915, to modern and present day Hawaiian and U.S. models, the vast display is a rare and wonderful array of prominent pieces that few would have experienced.

So if you’re a ukulele enthusiast, or you’d simply like to see the historic displays of surfing memorabilia featured at Surf World Gold Coast, drop by for a visit.
