Phil Avalon picked up a Bolex movie camera whilst still in his teens and it seems as though he has never put it back in its case. Actor, writer, film maker and die hard surfer, Phil’s movies have played in every country throughout the world.

Phil Avalon picked up a Bolex movie camera whilst still in his teens and it seems as though he has never put it back in its case. Actor, writer, film maker and die hard surfer, Phil’s movies have played in every country throughout the world.

Beginning his career as a male model to pay his way through drama school, Phil is considered a leading light in the domestic and international film community. After two years in drama school, Phil wrote and directed a successful theatre production entitled THE BACKSTREET GENERAL in his early twenties.

Appearances with Abigail in the TV hit ‘Number 96’ progressed to Phil and Abigail headlining a stage production ‘THE SAGA OF SAN PEEL’ they later appeared together in other Avalon productions including  ‘SUMMER CITY’.  A movie that saw Phil discover the talents of a young drama student Mel Gibson. It was a centerfold in Playgirl Magazine that saw Phil on his way to Hollywood to be again challenged on many fronts. Represented by a powerful agent, living in Beverly Hills, Phil saw another side to the glitz and glamour and after some outrageous times in Hollywood returned to Australia to marry his childhood sweetheart.

Whenever he had a break in film production, Phil competed in surf-board and wave-ski contests. He designed a range of surf craft called ‘Wavemaster’ to eventually win a world masters championship.

After four decades of writing, producing and directing, Phil’s movies were screened at the Sanctuary Cove Film Festival. Known for assisting young & mature new talent, Phil was recently honored with a lifetime achievement award. He also volunteers spare time to charities, is highly respected by his peers and is renowned for assisting film makers and surf culture around the globe.

Join us on 19 February at Surf World for the launch of Phil’s latest book.  Doors open 6pm for 7pm start.  Drinks and food available.
