Jamie Mitchell Exhibition

Jamie Mitchell Exhibition
For those of you who don’t know much about the Gold Coast’s Jamie Mitchell, he is a man of many talents. Although the term ‘legend’ is thrown around lightly these days, it’s hard to describe Jamie in any other way. He is not only an accomplished big wave surfer, tow-in surfer, stand-up paddle boarder, professional lifeguard, but also the 10 time consecutive winner of the Molokai to Oahu Paddle Board World Championships.

The annual race requires paddlers to traverse one of the roughest stretches of water in the world – the 32 mile wide Ka’iwi channel stretching between the North Shore of Molokai, Hawaii, to the South Shore of Oahu.P. It is considered one of the toughest events in the world and to win it 10 times in a row is a testament to not only Jamie’s peak physical fitness, but to his strength of character as well.

Jamie has kindly allowed Surf World to showcase some of the memorabilia collected throughout his career to be displayed in an exhibition which will be held in early May. An 18ft paddle board Jamie used in the Molokai to Oahu Paddle Board World Championships is one item of particular interest, decorated with well wishes from friends
congratulating Jamie on winning the event 10 times in a row.

‘Decade of Dominance’ can also be viewed at the museum. As the title suggests, the movie is an inspiring insight into how Jamie dominated the Molokai to Oahu paddle board race to become its undisputed king.

For more information on the exhibition please contact Surf World Gold Coast on (07) 55 256380. The exhibition starts in early May and can be visited daily from 10am – 4pm.
